PSEUDOPODIUM (Pl. PSEUDOPODIA)

Biol. (in amoeboid cells) a temporary protrusion of the cell surface for movement, feeding, reproduction, etc.

A Reflection of current unease with the application of scientific advances in the fields of agriculture, medicine and communication.

The work inhabits an overlap zone between the nature-evolved and human designed environments, combining the technological and biological, the geometric and organic.

James Lovelock’s Gaia Theory proposed that by means of biofeedback loops, Planet Earth is a self-regulating organism. An extension of this theory to include a capability for novel response when its equilibrium is threatened, might form a premise for some of the work; in particular the black and white photographic records of site-specific interventions or installations.

The other body of work is gallery based and consists of three-dimensional fabrications (static and kinetic). Industrial components selected for both their formal qualities and sign functions are combined in geometric relationships, alluding to biological structures on a microscopic and macroscopic scale.
